Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a non-invasive type of tumor that can sometimes progress to a more lethal form of breast cancer and represents about 25% of all breast cancer cases. Between 30% and 50% of DCIS patients may develop an invasive stage of cancer, yet identifying which tumors will progress is still a challenge due to unknown biomarkers. Not long after pulling a last-minute plug on a $232m initial public offering (IPO) on Nasdaq, Telix Pharmaceuticals has raised $398m (A$600m) via the issue of convertible bonds. The bonds, which are convertible into ordinary shares, will yield a 2% – 2.75% interest, the radiopharmaceutical specialist said in a 23 July press release. The maturity date is set for five years from now, at the end of July 2029. Australia-based Telix said it intends to list the convertible bonds on the Official List of Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Limited (SGX-ST). While Telix had been planning on going public on Nasdaq earlier this year, the company U-turned on the IPO citing market conditions at the time. A study led by the University of Edinburgh in collaboration with the University of Oxford has found that a pain gene carried by women with chronic pelvic pain makes them more likely to respond well to Pfizer’s painkilling drug, Neurontin (gabapentin). Published in the journal iScience, the study found that women carrying a naturally occurring variation of the gene called Neuregulin 3 in their DNA were more likely to experience relief after taking Neurontin. Chronic pelvic pain is a persistent, disabling pain that affects around one in four women globally. Often prescribed for chronic pain, Neurontin is designed to target the central nervous system to reduce the heightened pain sensitivity that affects people living with long-standing conditions. Rona Therapeutics has secured $35m in its Series A+ financing round to advance its metabolic small interfering RNA (siRNA) pipeline in clinical settings. The company will also use the investment proceeds to develop next-generation RNA platforms. LongRiver Investments spearheaded the financing round, which saw contributions from Zhaode Investment, Zhongqi Capital, BioTrack Capital and Lilly Asia Ventures. LongRiver Investments will become part of Rona’s board. The company focuses on developing siRNA programmes, with its first product, RN0191, having completed Phase I clinical studies in Australia and China. Meitheal Pharmaceuticals has expanded its biopharmaceutical portfolio through the acquisition of rights to CONTEPO (fosfomycin for injection) from Nabriva Therapeutics for the North American region. Meitheal gains access to the rights to CONTEPO, including development and regulatory works, intellectual property rights, technology and related know-how. Nabriva will receive payment upon the agreement closing in addition to royalties on net sales of the injection in the US.
