High-Field MRI Impact On Breast Tissues To Be Studied Via A Simulator

Scientists at Purdue University have devised a simulator that can give an idea about the effect of strong magnetic fields of the power of about 7 Tesla, on human breast tissue of varying densities. The regular MRI machines in hospitals generate magnetic fields of about 3 Tesla as high resonance magnetic fields could lead to excessive heating and permanent hampering of tissues. However, the exact effect of such high power has been a mystery. The study was published in the journal, Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. 20 varying breast tissues were simulated and the quantity of heat produced in the scanned tissue was assessed.
