In a major breakthrough in the medical field, one of the world’s most dreadful viruses could possibly treat deadly brain tumors (glioblastoma). The survival chance turned out to be better than expected especially for patients who were administered the genetically modified poliovirus.
A research team from MIT’s Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research in Cambridge, US discovered a novel one-shot nano polio vaccine to eradicate polio. The inactivated polio vaccine was encapsulated in a biodegradable polymer named as PLGA.
Efforts to rid the world of polio have taken another significant step, thanks to research led by University of Queensland bioscience experts and funding from the World Health Organisation (WHO).
