Adapsyn Bioscience Inc., a biotechnology company focused on the discovery and development of novel medicines derived from evolved small molecule natural products, announced that it has completed a round of financing that was co-funded by Pfizer R&D Innovate and Genesys Capital. MetaLinear is a start-up biotechnology company founded in 2017, focused on the identification and validation of new drug targets for difficult to treat bacterial infections. The new investment was secured from the BioCity Group Ltd, who manage the Alderley Park Ventures (APV) fund and Catapult Ventures, who manage the Greater Manchester and Cheshire (GM&C) Life Sciences Fund. On Friday, November 17, Genentech, a Roche company, sued Pfizer in a federal court in Wilmington, Delaware, over Pfizer’s biosimilar for Genentech’s Herceptin. Genentech is claiming that Pfizer’s proposed biosimilar infringes 40 of its patents. Genentech also is demanding compensation for lost sales if Pfizer launches its copycat version before the Herceptin patents expire.
