The DTP vaccine (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis – used to treat whooping cough), particularly two batches of it, were recalled in October 2017 as they tested unsuccessful, as per the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control.
BCCDC noted that this Chinese vaccine recall impacted Hebei and Shandong provinces and the city of Chongqing as well.
British Columbia’s health authorities urge parents to check their toddlers’ records for the specified vaccine in case they took them in the previous year in the parts of China referred to.
As the two batches failed the test, the center asserts that they are unable to aid patients with full immunity and hence, children who were given this vaccine might need to be given few extra vaccines.
The two unsuccessful batches were reportedly used in the Hebei and Shandong provinces by the Provincial disease control centers, also were by the Disease Prevention and Control Centre from the city of Chongqing.
Though the center does not claim any safety hazard to the patients injected with it, parents of toddlers will worry whatsoever. The ones who got their kids below two years of age vaccinated between March and October 2017 were advised to track their immunization records.
After finding this vaccine in their records, the parent is advised to contact their local health authorities so they can ensure that their children are safe from tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis.
