Perflow Medical, an Israeli-based medtech company focused on next-generation neurointerventional devices, announced the issuance of U.S. Patent No. 9510855, by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), for the Stream™ Dynamic Neuro-Thrombectomy Net. This is the first device to provide full dynamic wall apposition during the treatment of acute ischemic stroke.
With more than 13.5 million annual occurrences worldwide, stroke is the primary cause of long-term disability with a devastating effect on patient quality of life and long-term healthcare costs. Neuro-thrombectomy devices have shown promise to improve patient outcomes but many commercial devices restrict device manipulation, hindering the physician's ability to provide complete reperfusion.
The Stream Net provides physicians' full control of the radiopaque, braided net to make real-time adjustments based on intracranial vessel geometry. Physicians can manipulate the net diameter, length, and radial force to optimize contact with the vessel wall and improve clot retention during removal through tortuous anatomy.
"Timely revascularization is crucial for treating patients with acute ischemic stroke, however the cases remain inherently challenging," commented Danny Farin, CEO, Perflow Medical. "We believe better patient outcomes are achieved by leveraging the physician's expertise and experience. Our propriety braided net platform provides physicians with superior control and full dynamic wall apposition to address clinical situations real-time. We are excited to offer the Stream Net to help patients in Europe."
