NeuroOne Medical Technologies (Nasdaq:NMTC) announced that it appointed Christopher R. Volker as its chief operating officer (COO). Volker joins the Eden Prairie, Minnesota-based neurotech company from Abbott. Researchers from the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research, the French National Center for Scientific Research and the University of Bordeaux in France, along with Swiss researchers and neurosurgeons, have successfully designed and tested a spinal stimulation implant to treat Parkinson’s disease. Conducted in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne and the Lausanne university and hospital (UNIL CHUV), the implant was tested to correct disabling gait disorders, which are associated with 90% of people living with advanced Parkinson’s and are often resistant to treatment. Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative condition which progressively damages and leads to a loss of nerve cells in parts of the brain. OpSens sells two pressure-sensing guidewires for use in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures. The devices helped OpSens generate sales of C$34.2 million ($25.2 million) over the first nine months of its current fiscal year. The co-founder of a fluorescence-guided imaging technology firm has been awarded part of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in acknowledgement of his research into quantum dots. The Nobel Prize Committee said that Moungi Bawendi revolutionised the chemical production of quantum dots, resulting in almost perfect particles. Quantum dots are nanoparticles so tiny that their size determines their properties. They have frequently been employed in the use of medical imaging devices such as those provided by the company Bawendi co-founded, Lumicell. Nearly one in three Americans wear a wearable device, like a smartwatch, to track their health and fitness. Studies have shown positive effects of increasing movement in ways that can be measured by these devices, especially for people who recently had a heart attack or other cardiovascular event. Dive Brief Enovis has struck an agreement to buy orthopedics company LimaCorporate for 800 million Euros ($847 million). The acquisition of the Italy-based company will scale Enovis’ global reconstruction unit, creating a $1 billion business that is forecast to grow in the high single digits and generate $40 million in cost synergies over the next three years.
