Recently, Hengrui Pharmaceuticals’ subsidiary Fujian Shengdi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. received a Notice of Approval for Clinical Trial of Drugs approved by the State Drug Administration, which approved HRS-7249 Injection, a Class 1 new drug, to carry out clinical trials for the treatment of hyperlipidemia. Upon inquiry, no similar products have been approved for marketing at home and abroad for the time being. Hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) is a common type of dyslipidemia. Epidemiologic studies have shown that HTG is one of the risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and acute pancreatitis, and is clearly associated with overweight/obesity, insulin resistance/type 2 diabetes mellitus, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and chronic kidney disease. Currently, triglyceride-lowering drugs often used in clinical practice have limited reduction of triglycerides and have adverse effects such as hepatic and renal impairment, increased risk of atrial fibrillation, and decreased insulin sensitivity, and safer and more effective drugs are needed for ...

During and after a heart attack, the heart’s muscles suffer damage leading to the formation of scar tissue known as cardiac fibrosis. This scar tissue lacks the flexibility and contractility of healthy heart muscle, and its permanent presence can impair the heart’s pumping ability, potentially resulting in heart failure. Cardiac fibrosis is associated with all forms of heart disease, including those resulting from the overloading of the heart due to high blood pressure. Despite substantial investment in research seeking treatments to manage cardiac fibrosis, these efforts have largely been unsuccessful. There is a pressing need for innovative treatments that could halt or even reverse cardiac fibrosis, offering hope to millions affected. Scientists have now developed a first-of-its-kind integrated map of heart cells that sheds light on the process of cardiac fibrosis and could aid in preventing damage following a heart attack. This breakthrough achieved by researchers at the Victor Chang ...

Researchers from the University of Bristol have revealed a new disease-driving mechanism that could help treat the development of atherosclerosis. The new therapeutic, IMSET, is being developed by researchers at the Bristol Medical School: Translational Health Sciences (THS) and is being supported by funding through beLAB1407, one of Evotec’s global portfolio of BRIDGE partnerships. Affecting 42% of adults without heart disease, atherosclerosis is characterised by the build up of atherosclerotic plaques (fatty deposits) in the arteries, which can lead to heart attacks, strokes and peripheral arterial disease. When investigating how immune cells in the blood contribute to the creation of atherosclerotic plaques within the arteries, researchers found that these cells could exist in different forms, with particular types driving the development of the plaques. The discovery allowed researchers to identify a certain genetic target, known as IMSET, “which is a central regulator of their behaviour… [which] will allow us to ...
The Phase 3 results for ocedurenone come less than nine months after Novo Nordisk acquired the drug from KBP Biosciences. Novo Nordisk has stopped the clinical trial in uncontrolled hypertension and chronic kidney disease, but is evaluating potential applications of the small molecule in other indications. By Frank VinluanA Novo Nordisk drug for hypertension and chronic kidney disease has failed a pivotal study, a setback to the Danish pharmaceutical giant’s effort to bring patients a new therapy with potential safety and efficacy advantages over currently approved medications in the drug class, including a product marketed by Bayer. Novo Nordisk did not release specific details about the Phase 3 results for the drug, ocedurenone. The company said Wednesday that an independent data monitoring committee recommended stopping the trial after a prespecified interim analysis. Ocedurenone is a small molecule designed to block the mineralocorticoid receptor. When overactivated, this receptor can contribute to ...

On June 25, Chiatai Tianqing received the Certificate of Drug Registration approved by the State Drug Administration, and the company’s liraglutide injection was approved to be listed in the market, which is used for controlling blood glucose in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This is the ninth new product (including new indications) approved by Chiatai Tianqing since this year. The approval of this product also marks Chiatai Tianqing’s formal entry into the field of biopharmaceutical glycemic control. Liraglutide is a long-acting analog of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) with 97% homology to natural GLP-1, an endogenous enteric insulinotropic hormone that enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic β-cells. In addition to pancreatic islet cells, GLP-1 receptors are widely present in gastrointestinal, lung, brain, kidney, cardiovascular system and other organs and tissues. Liraglutide prolongs the half-life of GLP-1 on the basis of retaining the physiological action characteristics of GLP-1, and needs to ...
