UK health agency urges people to get vaccinated against respiratory viruses before winter

The UK Health and Safety Agency (UKHSA) announced on the 26th that as winter approaches, influenzaThe number of cases of COVID-19, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is on the rise, and the public is urged to make appointments for relevant vaccines as soon as possible.

  The latest UK national influenza and COVID-19 surveillance report shows that related cases have been steadily increasing over the past few weeks. The COVID-19 positive rate has risen from 7.6% to 8.4% in one week, and the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations per 100,000 people has also increased from 2 to 2.73. UKHSA emphasizes that before the peak season of respiratory diseases arrives, people should receive timely medical treatment from the UK National Health Service.The free vaccinations are provided by the National Health Service (NHS). Pregnant women and millions of children are already eligible for the vaccine, and most eligible groups can make an appointment from October 1.

This year, for the first time, young children can receive the flu vaccine   via nasal spray at community pharmacies . To boost vaccination rates, the UK government launched a campaign this week called "Stay Healthy, Get Vaccinated." The campaign, jointly developed by the Department of Health and Social Care, UKHSA, and NHS England, will promote vaccination information to eligible groups through multiple channels, including television, radio, and social media.

  In addition, the UKHSA reported that due to the end of the school summer vacation, the common cold virus has increased significantly, and the rhinovirus positive rate has increased from 10.9% last week to 14.8%. The UKHSA encourages the public to wash their hands frequently, use tissues, and maintain good personal hygiene to reduce the risk of virus transmission.

  Dr. Jaime Lopez Bernal, a consultant epidemiologist at the UKHSA, said that influenza and COVID-19 infection levels are starting to rise slowly, and that people who are eligible should get vaccinated before the virus spreads widely in
