Copper is amongst the essential trace elements required for adequate functioning and maintaining good health. Since ancient times, water has often been stored in copper vessels. The idea behind this practice was to allow the copper ions to mix with the stored water which would then enter into the body upon consumption of this water.
In ancient times, copper was most commonly used to sterilize wounds and also in the treatment of bloodshot eyes, inflamed eyes and several sexually transmitted diseases.
Here are some more health benefits of this wonder element:
1. Copper intake is very effective in the process of wound healing. It is said that storing water in a copper vessel overnight and then drinking it accelerates the wound healing process and also prevents wound infection.
2. Copper is very useful to fight against thyroid diseases. It also helps in symptomatic relief of joint pain caused due to autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis.
3. Drinking water from copper glasses helps in relieving migraines and other chronic headaches.
4. Copper intake is very effective against anemia and regulates in the production of red blood cells in the spleen.
5. Copper is essential in the intrauterine life (inside the mother’s womb) because it helps in the development of the nervous system which includes the brain and spinal cord. Children born to pregnant women who do not consume adequate amounts of copper in their diet have been found to have congenital brain and spinal cord deformities and dysfunction.
6. Skeletal muscles which include the muscles of the upper extremity (hands) and lower extremity (legs) have a good conduction system across all movements due to the presence of copper in the tissues. It also helps in improving muscle strength and muscle tone.
