Medication management systems provider Plexus Technology Group (TG) is set to integrate its anaesthesia information management system (AIMS) with medical imaging firm Codonics’ medication safety technology Safe Label System (SLS) for an improved anaesthesia process.
The firms’ clients can now access the Codonics SLS in combination with Anaesthesia Touch and Pharmacy Touch.
Currently installed in more than 5,000 operating rooms, the medication safety system uses visual and audible electronic safety checks to avoid medication labelling errors.
The system can also be used to print various operating room materials such as medication labels, IV line labels and invasive monitor lines.
Plexus Technology Group CEO Tony Mira said: "We are delighted to offer Codonics SLS with Plexus TG's Anaesthesia Touch and Pharmacy Touch products to our customers as a fully integrated solution, offering a complete answer for barcode medication verification of IV meds at the point of care (POC) in the operating room."
"The anaesthesia and pharmacy management system in combination with the Codonics SLS is intended to automatically track inventory for simplified controlled substance reconciliation."
The combination is also expected to eliminate duplicate entry during documentation at the POC.
Codonics president and CEO Peter Botten said: "Integrating Codonics Safe Label System with Plexus TG's Anaesthesia Touch reinforces patient safety throughout the entire surgical process while closing the loop, enabling electronic reconciliation and documentation at the POC."
The system will also provide controlled-access cabinets, bar-coding syringe labelling, closed-loop reconciliation, and automated charging.
