Recently, the CDE (Center for Drug Evaluation) website showed that Beijing Fuyuan Pharmaceutical's esculenta potassium chlorthalidone tablets have had their clinical trial application accepted as a generic Class 3 product. Currently, no company has received approval for marketing or has submitted a production application for esculenta potassium chlorthalidone tablets under review.
Mesartan potassium chlorthalidone tablets are a combination antihypertensive drug. Mesartan potassium belongs to the sartan (ARB) class of antihypertensive drugs, which dilates blood vessels and lowers blood pressure by blocking angiotensin receptors. Its antihypertensive effect is relatively strong among drugs of the same class. Chlorthalidone belongs to the thiazide diuretic class, which helps lower blood pressure by promoting sodium and water excretion and reducing blood volume.
In recent years, the sales volume of hypertension medications (chemical and biological) has exceeded 60 billion yuan in all six major markets across China's three major terminals (see the end of this article for the statistical scope). In the first half of 2026, the sales volume increased by 10.98% year-on-year. In terms of segmented channels, the hospital market (public hospital terminals + public primary healthcare terminals) is the main sales channel, while the out-of-hospital market (retail pharmacy terminals) has continued to grow.
In terms of sub-categories, the market share of combination antihypertensive drugs has been steadily increasing in recent years, surpassing calcium channel blockers to become the top sub-category in the first half of 2026. Among them, sacubitril/valsartan sodium tablets, irbesartan/hydrochlorothiazide tablets, and valsartan/amlodipine tablets (I) are the top three products, all of which are blockbuster drugs with sales exceeding 1 billion yuan.
According to data from Menet.com, no company has been approved for marketing or has submitted an application for production of Mesartan Potassium Chlorthalidone Tablets. Only Beijing Fuyuan Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. has had its application for clinical trials accepted as a generic Class 3 drug.
As of now, Beijing Fuyuan Pharmaceutical holds production licenses for 14 products in the field of hypertension medication, including 6 combination antihypertensive drugs. Losartan potassium hydrochlorothiazide tablets, olmesartan medoxomil hydrochlorothiazide tablets, bisoprolol amlodipine tablets, and telmisartan hydrochlorothiazide tablets are all among the top 20 antihypertensive combination drugs in China's three major terminal markets and six major markets in the first half of 2026. In addition, 3 antihypertensive drugs are under review for production approval under the new classification.
