"/Recently, Siemens Healthineers and the Canadian government announced a major collaboration, signing a cooperation agreement with a total investment of over 4.9 billion RMB. This new 'value partnership' is jointly established with the Alberta Cancer Foundation, aiming to improve healthcare service efficiency through technological innovation.

Collaboration worth 4.9 billion yuan
The western region of Canada is facing dual challenges of population growth and aging, with the number of cancer cases constantly increasing. To address this situation, the Alberta government will invest 800 million Canadian dollars (approximately 4.03 billion RMB) over the next eight years to fully support early detection of cancer, reduce patient waiting times, and strive to establish Alberta's leadership position in cancer research and innovation. Siemens Healthineers will comprehensively replace outdated imaging and tumor treatment equipment throughout Alberta, while introducing innovative technologies and consulting services as solutions. This measure will significantly improve the level of medical facilities in the province and provide more accurate and efficient diagnosis and treatment services for patients.

Meanwhile, Siemens Healthineers will also invest CAD 175 million (approximately RMB 880 million) to support the construction of two centers of excellence and the development of related research projects. These two centers of excellence will focus on precision diagnosis and treatment of cancer and cutting-edge technology research, respectively. By integrating high-quality global resources and innovative forces, they will promote breakthroughs and progress in cancer treatment technology.

The Alberta Cancer Foundation, as the other party to this collaboration, will be responsible for managing and operating the Medical Research and Innovation Fund to attract and retain top medical research talent worldwide. This fund will support basic research, clinical trials, and new technology development related to cancer, bringing more hope and good news to cancer patients in Alberta.

Government leaders stated in another announcement that they aim to reduce the number of emergency visits related to cancer by 30% and the waiting time for cancer treatment by 50% through this collaboration. In addition, the new Cancer Care Excellence Learning Center will become Canada's first global oncology training, learning, and reference center, focusing on attracting cancer caregivers and integrating the latest treatment innovations.

The Alberta government stated that Siemens Healthineers has provided Alberta with 100% of radiotherapy equipment, 50% of analog positioning machine equipment, and 10% to 20% of diagnostic imaging equipment. However, the Alberta Cancer Foundation estimates that approximately 65% of the current software and equipment in the field of cancer care and diagnostic imaging in the province have exceeded their service life. Therefore, this collaboration is of great significance for improving the level of medical facilities in the province.

Alberta Health Minister Adriana Lagrange stated in a March 21 announcement, "This partnership will effectively reduce waiting times and patient costs, while enhancing the service capabilities of the entire healthcare system. It will also bring significant investment returns to oncology focus areas such as education, research, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, thereby better supporting patients and our healthcare professionals.

Arthur Kedel, the head of Siemens Healthineers Varian, emphasized in a press release in Alberta, "We will work together to advance the level of care for cancer patients in Alberta through artificial intelligence, education, research, and innovation. By comprehensively addressing issues in the cancer care continuum, we are striving to achieve a world without cancer fear.

This performance reflects the sustained strong demand for high-quality medical imaging equipment in the market.

Siemens Healthineers' Varian business also performed well, with comparable revenue increasing by 6.2% in the first quarter, approaching 1 billion euros. This growth is mainly due to the good performance of various regions, especially the strong growth in Asia Pacific Japan and the Americas. As the core sector of Siemens Healthineers in the field of radiotherapy equipment, Varian's continuous technological innovation and market expansion strategy have won the company wide market recognition.

In the Chinese market, Siemens Healthineers continues to increase its investment. On January 16, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony for its new base in Shenzhen with a total investment of over 1 billion yuan was held. This is the second R&D and manufacturing base invested by Siemens Healthineers in Shenzhen, and it is expected to start production by the end of 2027 at the latest. The new base will undertake the research and production functions of vascular imaging equipment and magnetic resonance core components, including Siemens Healthineers' latest DryCool innovative superconducting magnet globally.

Siemens Healthineers' strong growth in imaging and radiotherapy businesses, as well as its cooperation with the Alberta government, fully demonstrates the company's leading position and continuous innovation capability in the field of medical technology. In the future, with the continuous advancement of medical technology and the increasing market demand, Siemens Healthineers is expected to continue its strong growth momentum, providing more advanced and reliable medical solutions for patients worldwide.
