Smith & Nephew will reportedly acquire Integrity Orthopaedics with an initial cash payment of $225 million , and will make additional payments over the next five years, up to a maximum of $225 million , depending on the company’s performance. The deal is expected to close by the end of this month.
Founded in 2020, Integrity Orthopaedics is a US-based startup focused on sports medicine, specializing in developing innovative shoulder repair and sports medicine products . According to data from PharmNet Medical Devices, the company already has products on the market.
Integrity Orthopaedics has developed a rotator cuff repair system called the Tendon Suture System . In its announcement, Smith & Nephew stated that traditional rotator cuff repair surgery has a high structural failure rate (20%-40%), and the "Tendon Suture System" directly addresses this unmet clinical need. This system, through its patented micro-anchors, independently locking sutures, and integrated implantation system , aims to reduce re-tear rates and improve patient outcomes.
Early clinical data for this product also confirms its advantages; compared with traditional methods, it can shorten the suspension fixation time, reduce the operation time, and reduce the re-tear rate.
It is worth mentioning that this acquisition puts Smith Jr.'s "RISE 2026" strategy into practice, which aims to improve financial and operational performance by expanding its product portfolio and serving more patients worldwide.
Smith & Nephew had already established a presence in the rotator cuff repair field, and this acquisition aims to strengthen its shoulder joint repair product line.
In 2017, Smith & Nephew acquired Rotation Medical and its Regenten bio-induced implant, a tissue regeneration technology for rotator cuff repair, for an upfront payment of $125 million. Since its introduction in 2014, the implant has been used in more than 100,000 rotator cuff repair surgeries worldwide.
In July 2025, Smith & Nephew launched the Q-Fix wireless suture anchor , adding a new member to its shoulder repair product portfolio. This product line began with the Aetos shoulder system, which was designed to meet the growing demand for anatomical and reverse total shoulder replacements, supporting approximately 250,000 surgeries in the United States throughout 2025.
