Madenoxavir is one of the most promising innovative anti-influenza drugs in China. Originally developed independently by Antcon Biotech, in October 2023, Simcere Pharmaceutical Group entered into an exclusive collaboration with Antcon, acquiring exclusive commercialization rights for its influenza indication in China.
The failure to successfully advance its market application has once again brought this domestically produced anti-influenza drug, which was once highly anticipated, into the spotlight.
The course of treatment for madenoxavir is short, requiring a single oral dose of one tablet.
Madenoxavir is an innovative anti-influenza drug with global independent intellectual property rights. It belongs to the Cap-dependent endonuclease inhibitor class. It inhibits viral replication by inhibiting the activity of influenza virus Cap-dependent endonucleases, blocking viral mRNA transcription.

One key advantage of deuteroxavir in terms of administration is its short treatment duration. Data shows that adult patients only need a single oral dose of one tablet to complete the entire course of treatment. Compared to some anti-influenza drugs that require multiple doses, this administration method is expected to improve convenience and patient compliance.
According to the Moshang Pharmaceutical Database, deuteroxavir was first applied for clinical trials in 2021 and first applied for marketing approval in March 2025, covering indications related to influenza A and influenza B viruses.

From research and development to commercialization cooperation and market application, the progress of deuteronoxavir reflects the continuous advancement of domestic research and development of innovative anti-influenza drugs.
Competition among domestically produced influenza drugs continues to intensify.
The obstacles encountered in the market application for deuteronoxavir have once again drawn attention to the competitive landscape of domestically produced anti-influenza drugs.
According to the Moshang Pharmaceutical Global Drug Development Database, as of now, 10 new influenza drugs have been approved for marketing in China.

On August 13, 2026, Shanghai Aike Biopharmaceutical Technology Co., Ltd. announced that its independently developed first anti-influenza Fc conjugate (AFC) drug, AK0406 injection, had officially received approval from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) for its clinical trial application for influenza prevention. This is the first influenza AFC drug in China to enter the clinical stage, filling a technological gap in the field of long-acting antiviral influenza prevention in China.
Conclusion
With the advancement of more innovative and improved drugs, competition in the field of influenza treatment is gradually extending to multiple dimensions, including mechanisms of action, administration methods, and clinical application scenarios. For deuternoxavir, the subsequent review progress and commercialization prospects remain to be seen.
