What Are Buyers Looking For, and What Are Suppliers Focused On?

From September 16–18, CPHI & PMEC Shenzhen 2026 brought together pharmaceutical companies and industry professionals across APIs, excipients, finished formulations, pharmaceutical machinery, and other segments of the pharma value chain.

The Drugdu.com team was on-site throughout the three-day event.

We met familiar faces, connected with new companies across different sectors, talked with buyers looking for products and suppliers, and sat down with companies exploring new ways to expand their international business.

After three days of conversations, one thing stood out:

What matters is not simply how many people you meet at an exhibition, but what buyers and suppliers are actually looking for.

Buyers Are Looking for More Than Products

“Do you have suppliers for this product?”

“Are there other Chinese manufacturers we can compare?”

“Can we contact the manufacturer directly?”

Many of our conversations with buyers started with a specific product.

But finding the product is only the first step.

Specifications, documentation, supplier qualifications, responsiveness, and the ability to support the next stage of procurement can all influence whether a conversation moves forward.

For APIs, excipients, and finished formulations in particular, discussions can quickly move from price to documents such as COA, GMP, DMF, and other registration or quality-related materials, depending on the product and project.

That is also why we introduced Drugdu.com to buyers at the show.

If they could not find the right product at the exhibition, they can continue searching and screening suppliers online, contact companies directly, or post a sourcing request to receive more relevant offers.

The exhibition lasts only a few days. Sourcing continues long after the doors close.

Suppliers Are Asking a Different Question: Where Do We Go Next?

Our conversations with suppliers were quite different.

Many companies we met already have export experience and have attended international exhibitions before. Their questions are becoming more specific:

“Which countries should we focus on for our products?”

“Our products are already listed on international platforms. Why aren’t we receiving inquiries?”

“We are getting views, but why aren’t buyers contacting us?”

“How should we follow up with the contacts we met at the exhibition?”

Some companies even brought specific products to discuss with us, asking whether similar products were already being sourced internationally and which markets might be worth exploring.

Product information, priority products, target markets, keywords, and the completeness of a company’s online presence can all affect overseas promotion.

This was also why we brought one of Drugdu.com’s 10th anniversary programs to CPHI Shenzhen.

10 Years of Drugdu: 100 Overseas Promotion Assessment Places

2026 marks the 10th anniversary of Drugdu.com.

To mark the occasion, we launched an Overseas Promotion Assessment Program for 100 pharmaceutical and medical device companies.

During CPHI Shenzhen, we also introduced the program to companies interested in testing and evaluating their international promotion.

The idea is simple: rather than uploading products and waiting for results, participating companies can go through a complete promotion cycle — improving their company profile, selecting priority products, identifying target markets, and then observing product exposure, visitor sources, and inquiry performance.

At the end of the experience, our team will review the results and provide market feedback and promotion suggestions.

At the show, some companies came to us with products in hand and asked:

“Can we promote this internationally?”

“Are buyers looking for products like ours on Drugdu?”

Others joined the program because they wanted to see how their products would actually perform when presented to an international audience.

These conversations reinforced something we have been seeing for some time:

Companies are looking for more than another promotion channel.

They want to understand who is viewing their products, where the interest is coming from, why views do not always turn into inquiries, and what they can improve next.

That is exactly what this program is designed to explore.

CPHI Shenzhen Is Over. The Next Stage Begins.

A three-day exhibition creates an efficient opportunity for buyers and suppliers to meet face to face.

But much of the real business development happens afterward.

Buyers return home and compare suppliers, search for additional products, request documents, and continue discussions. Suppliers follow up with contacts, prepare additional information, and decide which customers and markets deserve further attention.

For pharmaceutical B2B, exhibitions create valuable face-to-face connections. Online platforms help those connections continue afterward — allowing companies and products to remain searchable, discoverable, and accessible to global buyers.

That is also why Drugdu.com continues to participate in international industry exhibitions.

We want to bring the connections made offline back online and help buyers and suppliers continue the conversation beyond the exhibition floor.

And with CPHI Shenzhen now wrapped up, our next stop is already approaching.
