"/Recently, the largest university hospital system in Europe, Paris Public Assistance Hospital (AP-HP), reached a comprehensive framework agreement with Siemens Healthineers, marking the first such cooperation between the two parties.

It is reported that this collaboration aims to address France's major healthcare challenges by jointly developing innovative solutions for chronic diseases, neurological and cardiovascular diseases, musculoskeletal disorders, and cancer.

01. Joining hands with the largest university hospital system in Europe
The agreement was signed by Nicolas Revel, CEO of Paris Public Aid Hospital, Bernd Montag, CEO of Siemens Healthineers, and Hassan Safer Tebbi, Regional Head of Siemens Healthineers France, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

It is understood that this is the first time that Paris Public Aid Hospital has carried out such a large-scale cooperation with an imaging company. This collaboration not only involves clinical research, but also encompasses systematic changes in healthcare service provision, utilizing advanced technology to adapt to the constantly changing needs of patients and institutions.

Working together is crucial, "Bernd Montag said." The combination of the expertise of both teams will enable us to better anticipate and address the various challenges facing today's healthcare system.

This cooperation is based on the existing cooperation between the two parties in the fields of imaging, diagnosis, radiation therapy, and interventional surgery, focusing on systematic solutions from prevention to post-treatment care. The project will include early detection strategies and optimizing patient medical processes, aiming to seamlessly integrate into hospital operations and improve patient treatment outcomes.

The agreement also opens the door to broader international cooperation through the European Union of University Hospitals (EUHA), of which Paris Public Aid Hospital is a founding member.

02. Positive impact of cooperation between both parties
Some analysts believe that the agreement signed between Paris Public Aid Hospital and Siemens Healthineers has multiple impacts on the healthcare industry, mainly reflected in the following aspects:
 New responses to healthcare challenges
By jointly developing innovative solutions for chronic diseases, neurological disorders, cardiovascular diseases, musculoskeletal disorders, and cancer, it is expected to bring new ideas and methods for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of these diseases, which will help enhance the entire healthcare industry's ability to tackle these complex diseases and benefit more patients.

 Regarding the transformation of medical service models
Collaboration is not limited to clinical research, but also involves systemic changes in healthcare service delivery. This will prompt medical institutions to re-examine their service processes, learn from their model of using advanced technology to adapt to the needs of patients and institutions, and promote the entire medical industry to explore how to better integrate resources, optimize service processes, and achieve more efficient and accurate provision of medical services to patients.

 In terms of technology application and promotion
Based on the existing cooperation between the two parties in the fields of imaging, diagnosis, radiation therapy, and interventional surgery, we focus on systematic solutions that cover the entire process from prevention to post-treatment care. This will help advanced medical imaging, diagnosis and other related technologies to be more widely and deeply applied in the industry. For example, if early detection strategies can be effectively implemented, it may drive more medical institutions to pay attention to and introduce such technological means for early screening of diseases, and improve the overall foresight of disease prevention and control in the medical industry.

 In terms of expanding international cooperation
This agreement opens the door to broader international cooperation through the European Union of University Hospitals (EUHA), with Paris Public Aid Hospital, as one of the founding members, participating. It may attract more medical institutions, medical enterprises, and other entities from around the world to participate in similar cooperation models, strengthen collaboration in technology exchange, resource sharing, joint scientific research, and other aspects between different countries and regions in the medical industry, and promote the coordinated development of the global medical industry.

 Improvement in patient medical experience and treatment effectiveness
The project includes improving the patient medical process to seamlessly integrate into hospital operations, which can provide patients with a smoother and more convenient medical process. At the same time, if the goal of improving patient treatment outcomes is achieved, it will also set an example for the entire medical industry, guiding other medical institutions to pay attention to and actively explore ways to optimize their own services to enhance the ultimate treatment effectiveness of patients.

03. Siemens Healthineers' Future Development Blueprint
In November of this year, Siemens Healthineers released the '2024 Sustainability Report', which outlines development goals and plans for 2030 and beyond.

In terms of medical accessibility, Siemens aims to achieve a target of 3.3 billion patient touchpoints worldwide by 2030, including 1.25 billion patient touchpoints in low - and middle-income countries. The company states that patient touchpoints refer to the number of times a patient interacts with Siemens systems, tests, or software.

It is worth mentioning that the above report mentioned that Siemens Healthineers has three strategic advantages: patient twinning, precision therapy, and digitization, data, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Patient Twinning: aims to describe each patient's individual characteristics as accurately as possible, so that treatment can be customized for individuals when necessary, and even simulated at some point in the future. Thanks to continuous innovation in the fields of medical imaging and laboratory diagnostics, Siemens Healthineers is gradually approaching the creation of individual "digital twins".

Precision Therapy: Accurately adapting the latest technology to the specific situation and needs of each patient. Robots help doctors navigate catheters in the blood vessels of the heart or brain with sub millimeter precision. High precision radiation therapy targets tumors while protecting healthy tissues as much as possible.

Digitalization, Data, and AI: The three work together, with AI combining digitalization and data to assist doctors in diagnosis and treatment planning, and provide accurate and appropriate treatment for each patient. They also help minimize errors, reduce nursing disparities, and enable the large-scale application of technology. Patients can benefit from treatment plans that have been proven successful in many similar cases, while knowledge is also transmitted to the place where patients receive treatment.

Under the above advantages, Siemens Healthineers has listed the company's innovative highlights, including several key products summarized as follows:
 MAGNETOM Flow enhances the sustainability and efficiency of MRI
Siemens Healthineers showcased the 1.5T low liquid helium magnetic resonance - Magnetom Flow - at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2024 Annual Meeting. This is Siemens Healthineers' first 1.5T platform using almost helium free technology.

Thanks to DRY Cool technology, the amount of liquid helium required for cooling has been reduced from 1500 liters to 0.7 liters, reducing costs and saving resources. This system does not have a quenching tube, which is a pipeline that other MRI systems need to safely discharge cold helium gas directly from the building into the atmosphere during emergency shutdown. The new system has a 60 centimeter aperture, covering all application ranges of MRI.

Compared with other Siemens medical devices without artificial intelligence, fully adopting AI based image reconstruction technology can achieve shorter measurement time and higher image quality, while highly automated simplifies workflow and provides the highest quality patient experience.

 Biograph Trinion, the next generation high-performance PET/CT scanner
The Biograph Trinion received FDA approval this year and is a next-generation PET/CT system. A sustainable imaging platform with ultra fast flight time and special air cooling design, and low total cost of ownership, capable of meeting clinical needs including oncology, diagnosis and treatment, cardiology, and neurology.

Its workflow is driven by artificial intelligence and implemented through the myExam Companion intelligent user interface, which can automate tasks and guide users to complete each step of the examination to obtain fast and consistent results. The scanner is designed to be energy-efficient, with an intelligent power-saving mode that can shut down the system at night and automatically start the next morning without interrupting the workflow, saving up to 46% of energy.

 Artificial Intelligence Factory
The core of Siemens Healthineers' artificial intelligence development is a team of 350 highly skilled experts. The company has established a global computer network infrastructure for artificial intelligence experiments, with its flagship computer "Sherlock" possessing excellent computing power, capable of conducting over 1600 AI experiments per day, and operating entirely on renewable energy.

Sherlock has been put into operation in the United States and is supported by Siemens Healthineers' distributed infrastructure located in China, Germany, and India.
