Recently, GE Healthcare is manufacturing the integrated Omni Legend PET/CT at its new production facility in Wisconsin. This marks the first time that the system has been produced domestically in the United States.
01. Innovative product Omni Legend PET/CT
GE HealthCare launched its first PET/CT: Omni Legend on the fully digital Omni platform at the European Association for Nuclear Medicine (EANM) annual meeting in October 2022. The system achieved significant improvements in sensitivity, efficiency, radiation dose, and patient comfort. The system is equipped with a new digital BGO (dBGO) detector, aimed at improving examination efficiency, enhancing patient experience, and boosting diagnostic confidence. The system adopts a new category of digital BGO (dBGO) detector materials, with small crystal size and sensitivity more than twice that of existing digital scanners, which can achieve faster total scanning time and impressive small lesion detectability It aims to improve operational efficiency, enhance patient experience, and strengthen diagnostic capabilities, ideally helping to improve patient treatment outcomes.
In addition, the system's ability to diagnose and image short-lived tracers, as well as its dynamic protocol, helps provide clinical doctors with more clinical information on oncology, cardiology, and neurology program types than ever before.
In addition, the company announced that the 100th Omni Legend system will be installed at UW Health Eastpark Medical Center in Madison, Wisconsin, near Waukesha.
Jay Hill, Vice President of Advanced Technology at GE HealthCare, stated in a statement, "We are committed to promoting precision medicine in various fields and practicing more personalized healthcare, including integrated diagnosis and treatment. Personalized patient care, advanced diagnosis and treatment methods can help patients embark on the right path of treatment faster, all of which are aimed at improving patient outcomes. Currently, our Waukesha factory, as an important founding partner of the Wisconsin Biohealth Technology Center, supports the development, production, and delivery of next-generation imaging technologies to increase diagnostic applications. Our team is collaborating with the technology center to achieve our common goal of combining patients' digital tools and personalized datasets with these new technologies, taking personalized medicine to a whole new level, and increasing the yield and value of diagnosis with the help of clinical doctors in the United States and Canada
Although the usage rate of cardiac PET examination has been slowly increasing, it is expected that its usage rate will significantly increase in the coming years due to fluoropyridine alcohol. Compared with SPECT, the main force in current cardiac nuclear medicine imaging, PET not only provides better image quality, but also evaluates myocardial microvascular blood flow. Some industry observers predict that PET may even be used more frequently than SPECT in diagnosing heart disease patients.
02. GE Healthcare has multiple major initiatives
GE Healthcare is a leading global medical device giant, with medical imaging, ultrasound, life care, and diagnostic drug businesses covering all aspects of medical care from diagnosis, treatment to monitoring. 03. Launch the first CT production line in France
Last week, GE Healthcare launched its first CT production line in France, marking a significant expansion of the company's business at its Booker factory in the department of Yvelines, France.
It is reported that the new production line was announced in 2023 with the aim of improving the company's agility, reducing carbon emissions, and better serving European customers. At present, the first scanner assembled in France, the Revolution Maxima CT, has been installed in the emergency department of Montargis Hospital Center in Loiret.
The assembly of Revolution Maxima CT at Buc factory includes all functions and X-ray testing, system configuration, and direct delivery to European customers, which helps simplify the supply chain.
It is understood that the new production line is part of GE Healthcare's "In Europe for Europe" program, which is expected to reduce carbon emissions related to scanner transportation in Europe by 84%. This reduction is mainly due to the integration of production processes and a preference for land and rail transportation over air transportation.
The greenhouse gas emission reduction targets of GE Healthcare have been validated by the Scientific Carbon Target Initiative (SBTi). The company's mid-term goal is to reduce operational emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 42% by 2030, and to reduce Scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services, upstream transportation and distribution, business travel, and the use of sold products by 25% compared to the 2022 baseline, achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
At CHAM, the newly installed scanner will help meet the demands of the busy emergency department, which receives 60000 visits annually.
04. Ultrasound Greater China headquarters landing
On October 21st, GE Healthcare signed a cooperation agreement with Wuxi High tech Zone, and the ultrasound Greater China headquarters and high-end medical device ecosystem project officially landed. The GE Medical Ultrasound Greater China headquarters project, which has landed this time, will revolve around the development plan of "one circle and three centers", creating a high-end medical device ecosystem, innovation center, service center, and customer experience center for ultrasound business, accelerating the landing of GE Medical China's development strategy of "comprehensive domestic production, borderless innovation, and win-win cooperation".
Since settling in Wuxi High tech Zone in 1996, GE Healthcare Wuxi has developed into the world's largest ultrasound center and the most comprehensive clinical diagnostic medical product production base for GE Healthcare. In the past year, despite facing economic climate and global geopolitical uncertainties, the production of ultrasound probes at the Wuxi base has exceeded 1.5 million units.
According to a report by Wuxi Radio and Television Government, GE Healthcare will build a super factory in Wuxi High tech Zone, continuously introduce new production lines and products, upgrade green factories, lead intelligent manufacturing and digital transformation, and further enhance local research and development innovation capabilities.
At the same time, GE Healthcare plans to create a high-end medical device ecosystem, leveraging its leading and supportive role as a leading enterprise to attract upstream and downstream, production and supply, and large, medium, and small enterprises to actively approach, with Wuxi as the center, to create a medical device industry cluster with distinctive advantages that radiates the Yangtze River Delta and even the whole country.
GE Healthcare will also establish an innovation center, which will effectively integrate the scientific research forces of domestic and foreign hospitals, experts, universities, research institutes, health commissions and other parties, as well as GE Healthcare's entire industry chain resources, through the approach of "deep product experience+customer collaborative innovation", to achieve deep integration of industry, academia and research, and create a scientific and technological innovation platform that integrates technology, platform, talent and market; Establish a customer service center to provide customer support services such as product repair, product refurbishment, and training; Build a GE Healthcare Customer Experience Center to showcase the achievements of new technologies, products, and models in the intelligent healthcare industry in a one-stop manner, and attract supply chain partners who collaborate with GE Healthcare for innovation to participate. Focus on the customized needs of Chinese users and comprehensively accelerate the landing of innovation.
