A lot concerning our health comes down to what we eat. There are many nutritious foods available which should specifically be consumed if you suffer from a health condition.  Hepatitis is no different. There is one food source which can prevent liver diseases to a greater extent. In recent times, kale has gained a reputation for being a considered super food, especially for people with any type of liver disease including hepatitis.

There are three reasons which explains the link between kale and liver health:

1. Anti-inflammatory properties – The inflammation of the liver usually leads to liver cell damage. Kale is considered to be a great anti-inflammatory food, due to the presence of a flavonoid named quercetin, which aids in anti-inflammation. Kale is also rich in vitamin K, which helps in regulating the inflammation process.

2. Anti-Cancer Effect – Chronic hepatitis B is considered as the most common risk factor for liver cancer. But the phytonutrients present in kale combats free radical damage that contributes to cancer risks.  Even the isothiocyanates present in kale reduces the carcinogenic activation.

3. Detoxification Effect - When the hepatitis virus attacks the liver organ, toxins are released which leads to the onset of symptoms such as fever, loss of appetite, liver failure etc. The isothiocyanates from kale’s glucosinolates aids in the regulation of detoxification.

Due to the anti-carcinogenic and anti-inflammatory effects, which helps in detoxification and weight loss, kale is considered as a liver-friendly food.
